Alfredo was born in Chianciano Terme; as a teenager, he would spend his days cycling around Val d’Orcia. There are not many people who have such a deep knowledge of the area as Alfredo. Later, Alfredo began to travel and fell in love with the art of photography, moving to New York and studying at the International Centre of Photography. While in New York, he was awarded a three-month internship in the world-famous Magnum agency’s archive department. He then moved back to Italy and began working with the Contrasto photo agency.

Alfredo has always been fascinated by other cultures, and through his photography he has been able to travel the world and meet some extraordinary individuals. He has undertaken many commissions in Africa for UNICEF Italy. Amongst many other magazines, his photo stories have been published in Vanity Fair, The Australian Photojournalist, Sport Week, and El Pays Seminal. Amongst the photography festivals that have featured his work are Fotonoviembre, Biennial of photography, Tenerife, and Visa pour l’Image, Perpignan, France. His first book, Lost Angels (2006) was awarded first prize in the International Photography Awards (book category).

Alfredo is now based back in Tuscany, running photography workshops as well as continuing to work with Contrasto. He enjoys the opportunity the workshops offer to meet fellow enthusiasts for photography and the beauty of Tuscany and to help them to get the very best out of their cameras and the astonishing Tuscan landscape.

Alfredo’s workshops are rooted in his deep knowledge of Tuscany and the people who make it such a special place. Tuscany is one of the most photogenic and photographed landscapes in Europe, and it is certainly worth photographing. However, Alfredo brings you a unique opportunity to photograph the people of Tuscany as they go about their daily lives and work, gaining a perspective that few tourists and casual photographers will ever have. Alfredo will show you how to employ your camera in a variety of styles and conditions, teaching you how to get the perfect light settings, how to frame an image, and how to approach different subjects. Alfredo’s photographic experience combines with his storytelling and reportage skills to make his workshops ones from which you will return not only with some of the best photographs you’ve ever taken but also incredible memories of the stories behind your images.

Alfredo suggests that you join one of his workshops at the beginning of your Tuscan holiday, so that you will be able to use your newly-taught skills on the rest of your trip.
