The tour will commence at Camicia-Cortona. At 10:00 am, you’ll be met by your bilingual tour guide and transported on a journey of discovery through majestic woodland to the fascinating churches and city walls of Cortona. The day will start with a leisurely 45 minutes walking through woodland and forests, where you’ll have an opportunity to learn about Cortona’s natural surroundings and the area’s rich history. At 1:00 pm, we’ll reach the city’s fortress, where you can relax for a while as we take in the spellbinding beauty of the surrounding landscapes. Having refueled for the second part of the tour, at 2:30 pm, you’ll be met by a second tour guide who will look after you for the afternoon and lead you on an exciting exploration of some of the area’s most notable landmarks. Your guide will lead you to Poggio and the Romantic-style church of San Niccolo, a Medieval tower that was constructed in the 15th Century and was home to the Claires Franciscan order, which was founded during St. Francis’ lifetime. You’ll learn all about the long and fascinating history of this building and how it underwent intriguing transformations during the 16th and 17th centuries to become the architectural masterpiece it is today. We will then progress to take in the sights and sounds of the city’s main square, where we’ll learn more about the history of this magnificent town and have an opportunity to talk to the local producers of the wines, cuisines, and ceramics for which the area has become famous. We’ll finish the tour at 5:30 pm with a visit to a local jewelry store, where we will enjoy a sparkling Prosecco in a flute made of pure gold or silver leaf as our host teaches us the ancient techniques that the craftsmen use to produce fine metals.
